depending on how old and how well they were mastered, they can be pretty compressed and benefit greatly from expansion. I do crank it down a bunch for SACD and DVD audio, but I still use it. From there, it's just a tweak to where it "feels" right. I'm usually at around 1.3 on expansion and adjust the transition to where I'm more or less equal below and above the center. Never stay home without it!Īnd yes, moderation is the key, but I may be a bit less moderate than most. Even now I have to remind myself that it's the sound I'm concerned about.not all the purty flashy things. The key with these, or any add on units is moderation: a little goes a LONG way and it is very easy to get overly ambitous with your tweaking.
AU DYNAMIC RANGE EXPANDER FOR AMADEUS PRO SOFTWARE
I know that my computer has software that mimics them, but I truly love those units and have gotten very good at using them when I rip vinyl. I use the KLH/ Burwen DNF 1201A and TNE 7000 along with a SAE 5000A in my studio. I'm looking for another one to donate to my sons dorm room as we speak. Great vintage unit from the 80's it is a perfect match for those poorly engineered CD's from that era. I also have a DBX DX5 cd player for my bedroom system that has the proccessing units built in, but it is in the shop right now. The Impact Restoration can be tricky, but once you have it dialed in it makes those subs sing, baby!

I've got them on a loop between the cable box and the receiver and they make a dramatic difference in the sound quality. In addition to the 3BX in my main audio system, I use the DBX 10, 20 and 30 seperates in my HT set up.
